Filter Source Records
Use a source filter when you want the whole report to describe a subset of records, such as sales in North only. The filtered records contribute to the groups, calculations and totals.
Try filtering by region
Section titled “Try filtering by region”Choose which orders to include
Filter the source orders before adding up sales.
Try it: Choose Only North, then All regions.
What to notice: The total changes from $1,000 to $600 and back.
Select North, then clear the selection. Compare the total before and after the filter. This changes the records being summarized, rather than merely hiding a displayed row.
Configure a member selection
Section titled “Configure a member selection”grid.pivot = { rows: ['region'], columns: ['quarter'], values: [{ prop: 'sales', aggregator: 'sum' }], filters: ['region'], filterSelections: { region: ['North'] }, fieldPanel: { visible: true },};filters adds fields to the report’s filter area. filterSelections supplies selected values; use the actual source values, including their types. For example, true and 'true' are different selections.
Source filtering versus result filtering
Section titled “Source filtering versus result filtering”| Question | Use |
|---|---|
| Only include North’s orders | Source/member filter on Region |
| Show regions whose total sales exceed 500 | Result filter on the aggregate measure |
A result filter evaluates summaries after records have been grouped. It does not redefine the underlying fact scope used by percentage denominators or total calculations.
Server-side reports
Section titled “Server-side reports”The backend applies authorized filters before returning a page of summary groups. A browser filter is not an access rule. See request filters and backend authorization.
